This weeks hire steed is a Focus 1.25CC Eco Boost.

So far done 450 miles. I'm very very impressed.

It's obviously not a quick car, but it's neither desperately slow. On the motorway it will happily cruise up to 100, and what's more it's quiet and refined doing so. Probably this is the bit that has most impressed me.

It has gadgets galore - this one has sat nav, bluetooth, usb,Cruise, Climate etc. It's also I think rather big. Probably not enough as our family car, but as a work thing it's swallowed my work boxes, and overnight bag with no issue.

It's also comfortable.

The only thing I don't like is keyless ignition, as I've got nowhere to put the bloody key, other than a cup holder.

Fuel economy is about 45 mpg. My sort of driving is probably not the best for ultimate economy, but who cares.

I'd buy one.

I think most mainstream cars will be running 'tiny' little engines soon enough. It's not a bad thing, they really are very good. The only down side to the Eco boost 1.0 is the sound, the little 3 cylinder sounds so good it ruins the Mpg because I'd be revving all the time!? Is the 1250 a four pot?

I'm guessing so, but have not opened the bonnet to check...

Well the 3 cylinders sound like little V6's with a little hissing wastegate noise too! biggrin

I've got the 1.0 focus and been getting about 40mpg which is the best I've had, but I think someone on here has got 45+mpg.

Its also a lot quieter at motorway speeds than the previous 1.6 model

They're going to stick the 1 litre Ecoboost engine in the Mondeo, believe it or not.

Is 40mpg for a 1.0 good? We've just returned a leased Focus 1.6 petrol at work, it had done 110k over 3 years and averaged 42mpg.

I love the sound of mine, 1.0 (125), in my little Fiesta. Best sounding car I've owned although it sounds a bit rubbish at idle from the outside. Getting 45-47mpg on average over the last 1600 miles so not too bad. Tested with different fuels and so far no difference but might need more time to bed the engine in. That turbo can produce some serious heat though, the little plastic tank with the pink fluid in (I'm sure it's a coolant/expansion tank or something) was boiling when I opened the bonnet after a fairly normal drive.

That is fairly normal for most cars.
