Driving for qtr of a mile on a flat tyre
Discussion
Totally flat tyre on Mrs' Qashqai, drove a few hundred yards before realising it was flat, then limped it home.
No air on it at all, screw threw tread. must be a slow puncture and the car hasn't been driven for a few days.
Question: hole probably repairable but will the sidewall be damaged? There's a rubber line on the drive and road where it was backed off the drive bit they look OK once I put 5psi in to pop it back out again...

If it's been driven flat I wouldn't use it again.
A tyre structure is simply not designed to cope with the type of loads going through it when driven flat.
Could be all sorts of weakness / damage inflicted that can't be seen with the naked eye.
Plus the one time you need the full capability of a healthy tyre could be during a high speed evasive manoeuvre - not the time you want it to fail on you.

A friend did this in his Range Rover Sport. Somehow resulted in the car self-combusting!
You can't leave it at that. What happened?andrewparker said:
Haha, well this was on the M62. Roadworks meant single file traffic on the hard shoulder. I don't think he had a blow out, but it was nevertheless a very quick deflation of the tyre. Not wanting to stop (and hold up thousand of motorists) he attempted to drive on the rim to the next exit, but soon noticed flames coming from around the wheel arch. I can only presume that the friction and resultant heat build up caused something to catch alight. End result was a 9-month-old RRS burnt to the ground, and a closed motorway.
Sounds like something I would do.The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and the odd flame grilled Range Rover!
