What ho chaps, I was sent a link to this, and wondered what you guys would think, the car driver clearly tells porkies in his defence, but the motorcyclist doesn't let him complete his manoeuvre before he sets off, or even consider that he may wish to complete, as I think he/she is entitled to do so, as he/she is already passed the temp stop line before the lights change against him.

It appears that two tits meet each other, as I'm sure is the case in most collisions.

I most certainly wouldn't have set off like that, heading for what is now a stranded vehicle.

Typical London driving by both parties.

When you watch the start of the film with the MB filtering at a fair whack, you often see other MB or moped riders pulling out from in between the stationary queues of cars at the red lights straight into the paths of the filtering motorbikes in the outside lane.

Maybe I should watch that again as it looks like the biker proceeded on a green and the tt in the van lurched out in front of him on a red. This would take anyone by surprise.

Good job he had the video as similar happened to me in 2003 when a car pulled an illegal right turn in front of me and then his insurance company tried to sue me for riding into his car. I was off work for 2 months and off bikes for 6 years.

Luckily I paid for a top lawyer and took the bugger to the cleaners. Took 2 years despite the driver almost immediately getting 6 points and a large fine.

The car driver didn't "lurch" anywhere, the car is stranded at a busy inner city junction, and I'd have thought has priority as the already established vehicle.

Still no need for it to happen though, so avoidable by either party.

Surely the whole point of the box junction is that stranded vehicles don't block the junction. If the biker was expected to wait at the green for them to clear there would be no point in the box.

When you watched it I'm sure you had an expectation of what was going to happen, and so should he of had.

It is one of those situations where I don't know which rule trumps the other, and the rules will have been written with a hope that common sense would prevail.

The car should have stayed where he was. He was taken by surprise by how fast the bike left the lights, but it doenst absolve responsibility. The fact he then claimed to be stationary is taking the piss a bit.

Just another idiot on a motorcycle.

I'm sure there may be some sensible riders out there but I reckon they're one in a million.

I'm not sure that is true, it is passed the temp stop line.

I'm just amazed that they kept the box clear, must be a camera nearby.

Makes no difference. If you were in this situation where traffic coming from your left has a green light, and you are stopped a few feet past a red light, would you honestly feel that you had priority? The biker is guilty of trusting a tt in a car not to do something stupid, and the tt in the car is guilty of doing something stupid.

Was that rule not put into place for a reason then ?

It is my belief, right or wrong, that you should not pass the stop line unless you know you can clear the checked box. The number of times I've sat at such junctions going nowhere on a green light because some utter wk sock has decided they can "sneak through" only to park in the middle is ridiculous.

However, the biker set out in a manner that did not even remotely look like due care and attention.

I agree with everything you've written, but you'll get nowhere in our inner cities these days if you try and comply.

"The video of his journey clearly shows the lights facing him change from red to red and amber and he sets off having a clear road ahead."

Lawyer must have good eyes because the nearby lights are out of shot when he pulls up and you can't see them clearly further on. Also, green for go, red & amber still means stop.

The car was clearly at fault.

If I was the biker I'd have been more circumspect in my 'launch' from the lights.

Am I missing something? I don't see a green light for the biker in that video? Is there a repeater I'm missing?

Green means proceed with caution, neither did, 50/50 in my book.
