Hi guys.
I've come to that point where I am about to purchase a newer car. I've found the perfect car from a private seller, a lovely BMW 330D. However I have a dilemma as to how to sell my current car. My current car is listed on all classified sites, but I'm anticipating a wait before it actually sells.

When I purchase my new BM I will switch the insurance over, which means my current car wont be insured from the day I upgrade. This is where the problem is. If my current car isn't insured it can sit on my driveway no problem, but when it comes to a potential buyer who wishes to test drive it, how can I go about allowing a test drive on a non insured car?

I've looked into short term insurance which is quite pricey for day to day cover. Have you guys got any suggestions on this?

Another alternative is to keep my current car insured as my policy runs until mid November (And I'm hoping its sold by then). And take out a new policy when purchasing my new car. Essentially having two policies on two separate cars. This however wont allow me to carry over my no claims bonus.

Any recommendations or ideas would be great. How do you guys normally go about selling older cars when upgrading?

Thanks

Speak to your current insurer. They should offer bridging cover for both cars for a while with not too much additional expense.

Why do you think your current car will not sell quickly?

Hi there. I haven't heard of bridging cover before. Will that be the best of both worlds do you think. Covering my current car until the policy end or until it sells?

It has been listed for sale for two weeks without a viewing, only a couple of silly offers. I'll lower the price a little once I've purchased my new car and I have the stability of transport.

Should be if your insurance company are helpful. They won't do dual cover for a prolonged period but a couple of weeks shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully you can speak to them fairly easily.

What are you selling - PM if you like. I'm near Kent and in the market for a car.

I'm in a similar position.

Ordered a new lease car that arrives in two week and need to sell my mini.

Basically Admiral said they will swap the mini for the lease car. Then put the mini on a temporary cover until its sold.

Wasn't that much either!

I'm with Admiral also so this is promising. If you don't mind saying, how much was it for the couple of weeks temp cover?

For me was roughly £25 per week or £80 for 4 weeks in one go.

My premium is about £700 a year though!

Good luck and enjoy the new car

I rang them up and got a quote for £96 for just under a month which I'm happy to pay while I sell the car.

Thanks Onemcs!
