Hi - im sure this has been covered but I cant seem to find a great deal on google and what with the tax laws changing etc I just thought id ask for some upto date info.

Right, so im gong to be borrowing my mums boyfriend's car for the next couple of months, therefore the car isn't taxed (as per the new tax laws) and isn't insured either.

So I was going to insure from the first of 1/11/14 and as well tax it too.

Now my question is, can I insure it and tax it, although it isn't registered in my name on the logbook (I don't have to worry about the tax disk being sent to wrong address etc) some websites a re a good few years out of date.

Also I recently taxed my car (from the 1st of october) when I sorn this car it says I will get a refund from DVLA; is that in the form of a cheque?

Appreciate this probably has been covered but I thought id double check

Thanks

Yes you can insure a car that's not your own. You will have to declare to the insurance company that you are not the registered keeper of the car though, and it will undoubtedly raise the premium.

I've taken cars off the road several times and yes, the DVLA issues a cheque to the registered keeper but it will take 3 - 4 weeks or more sometimes.
