even with the power of google i cant find it... buts its me not google

On here there was a post of how to look at registations which shows where the car was registered. Like B*14 BHG being birmingham.

I guess I can't sum up the request in a few words so google is telling me to do one

According to that, vehicles registered in my home city should have started with Y, followed by L M N O P R S T or U.

Can't say I noticed that.

Strangely, I live in Sheffield and one of my cars carries what should be a Sheffield combination (YS), but it wasn't registered in Sheffield.

And where did Derbyshire figure in all this stuff?

Are we sure this isn't a hoax?

the one that annoy me is G for the 'Garden of England'
never in my life had i heard of Kent and sussex refered to as the garden of england before 2001
could they not have found a way to use a more appropriate letter? or come up with a place in the area which starts with G
i fking hate it, it makes me angry, and it makes me angry about the fact that it makes me angry because it's so fking pointless

Kent was known as the garden of England before I was a nipper. Not Sussex, though.

Don't think so, I know from the only vehicles I've bought new that Chester and Yorkshire are bang on that article.

This has everything. Even for the old prefix style plates and the dates certain letters on the old style were used.

Just one more thing to add to kingkong (can't see this bit in there) that in 1963 and 1964 the year letters were optional, there were other (of the earlier) formats issued in those years, such as 4 numbers 2 letters like "2334 KT"
