I have a 2010 Volvo V70 D3 and have owned the car about 3-4 months. I have looked on numerous occasions for the dipstick but there doesn't seem to be anything! I've read on various forums that there is an electronic level indicator but I can't find this either!

My car isn't keyless but won't turn on the ignition unless the engine is on. Basically you put the key in, clutch down and press start. So obviously it can't check the oil once the engine is running and there must be a way of doing it. Any ideas?

I think on most engines without a dipstick, the engine oil is checked with the engine running (I understand it is on a BMW?)

Have you got the drivers handbook anywhere? Does it tell you?

There is this that I found:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=167...

Suggests ignition on but engine not running...Might be useful?

I've already checked that one, thanks guys biggrin The issue is I can't get my ignition to come on without the engine coming on too. I put the key in and it does nothing. Might have to be a call to Volvo to sort this...

What happens if you put the key in and press start without depressing the clutch?

Land Rovers/BMWs etc I have driven use this as the means of just turning on the ignition.

Pushbutton start Fords (although my experience is of auto 'box) require just a quick tap to turn on the electrics and a press 'n' hold to fire the engine. Perhaps try that?

On my Megane the engine will only fire up if I hold the brake while pressing the power button, but the ignition circuit will come on if if the button is pressed without holding the brake.

Any use, for turning on the ignition without starting the engine?

Why not read the owners manual? Surely this should come with a 2010 car?

Hello when you do ever get to the stage of needing to put some oil in do not do it with a hot engine and make sure its not completely full the later Volvos are very fussy about oil level the only real accurate way to check it is with Vida the Volvo computer !
