Over the past few days there seems to be a dedicated effort to get all the average cameras working. The area covered South of the M25 in both directions.

Any news if they are going to be permanent, I recall some article that I can not locate with the installation of average cameras on the M3.

They've been there years now, thought they'd always worked?

Is that the bit of "motorway" that's a 50 limit, and the signs are not very frequent?

Easy to forget if you join it southbound coming back from Heathrow.

Yes ,it's permanent 50mph with average speed cameras, stops people who can't fathom intersections from crashing

quite so much.

Yes, that is the bit of the motorway. I get a feeling the 50 limit will be enforced soon in both directions.

Easily forgotten that as soon as you pass the M25 you reduce your speed and then speed up to the limit. That will be a very long 50 MPH zone.

That section is going to be a 'managed motorway' or a 'smart motorway' - the Highways Agency's terminology!!

I hate that bit. Everyone sticks to 50 with some jockeying of position towards the end of the 50 section.
Then there is the last yellow camera and the NSL sign.

And then you find that the people in lane 3 continue at exactly 50... I'm sure some of them make it to Basingstoke without leaving L3 or speeding up smile

It would be nice if this 'smart motorway' meant that the junction reverted to 70 at 'off-peak' periods, rather than the ridiculous situation that you have at present where you can join a motorway at midnight and still be trundling along at 50 for a couple of miles....

I've often wondered why the 50mph limit along this stretch even exists. There's nothing obvious to suggest it is any more dangerous than any other stretch of motorway. Anyone got any insight?

Well, I hit a badger on there and even at 50mph the gnarly bd made a huge mess of the front of my car.

Mind you it didn't do Mr Brock much good either.
