S Type R fuel consumption - I'm ashamed
Discussion
I was not in a rush to get home so decided to just stick to all speed limits, didn't drive like Miss Daisy, always find the first journey in a new car you're looking for any unexpected noises etc, if it can get into high 20's on a 'normal' run then I'll be very happy but its nice to know that if needs must it can be economical
I think it's a good idea to use the various speed limits as a benchmark as to what a car can achieve MPG wise, even if you do it just the once.
Here's mine, average from start up to shutdown;
Monaro CV8 - 31.8mpg, 385 mile journey.
Jaguar X-Type 3.0 AWD manual - 35.8mpg, 128 mile journey.
Jaguar XF 5.0 - 34.7mpg, 400 mile return journey.
Of course I rarely see these figures now, but it's nice to know it's possible if you need an 'economy run'.

I often try for an economy run on my way back from picking up a new car - then for the rest of my ownership, I have in my mind, "it's quite an economical car really, it can do <superduper> mpg", despite never getting anywhere near the same figure again.
