Good morning PH,

I will soon be in the market for a new car, and all I want is something with a sense of occasion, something a little special. I commute to work on public transport everyday and so just want something that will put a smile on my face when I use it at the weekends. It needs to be:

- Under 10k (UK pounds)
- Manual gearbox

Apart from that... I'm open to anything! Drivetrain, number of doors, engine size, age... I only plan on 5,000 or so miles a year so MPG is not a great concern either (within reason!). Pleased to hear your ideas

I second this suggestion.

Already thinking about swapping my M3 for a TVR in the new year.

As already mentioned, three letters is all you need - TVR.

There just so happens to be a sorted one in the classifieds at the moment. I think it's up for £11k and change but he has said he will take £10k.

Edit to add: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...

I have no affiliation with the seller.

Now that does look good. As has been said TVR is certainly the way to go for that sort of money if you're after sense of occasion. I've strayed to Porsche, Lotus etc etc and always go back to a TVR. You'll understand what it's all about as soon as you fire one up!

For a sense of occasion I suggest all those cars are Auto - Bentley, Jag etc

You have to really want a TVR to put up with their imperfections and I don't recall any of mine offering a real sense of occasion although I agree they fit in anywhere.

How / where do you drive ?

I like Monaro's, I really do, but LOL.

OP, different cars give a different sense of occasion for different people. Look in the classifieds etc at makes / cars that take your fancy and go drive them.

101/750 Giulietta Veloce ('56-'64)

Budget might be pushing it a bit.
