645ci or 630ci? pros/cons of both? budget is around 10k....

Popped round to a mates this evening and was told he is after a 6 series convertible. His budget is around 10kish, unsure what to advise him really. He wants a 3.0 but can't seem to find any in his price range.

645ci seems a bit overkill IMHO? Its a V8 right? Then again who am I to talk i run an M3.

Anyone here have any advice for him?

645 is a V8, 630 is a straight 6 I think. Personally I would recommend the V8 (I am biased though). 630 is 2006 onwards - gets better MPG (although my 645 averages 25) but the tax costs more than the V8 IIRC. V8 isn't without its foibles - oil leak being the key one but the is an easy fix for that now. Plus the V8 sounds better than the s6 ;-)

ETA even a late 645 convertible should come well within budget - 630 'vert will be harder to find at that price.

ETA2 I take it back, the 630 was introduced in late 2005 - there is a convertible in the classifieds for just under £10k...
