That fine line between acceptable/unsavoury
Discussion
I have been toying with the idea of buying a classic Impreza P1, but I can't get over their image; I know they are excellent cars, but it feels like the 22B is the only "acceptable" variant.
It got me thinking about an interesting idea for a thread!
For those manufacturers/models which fall into the hands of unsavoury types, which variants remain acceptable?
I'll start with a few suggestions (you might debate these, but that's the spirit of the thread!):

- Renault Clio Williams
- Vauxhall Nova Sport
- BMW E36 M3
I feel sorry for you not being able to buy the car you really want for fear of what others may think.
The P1 is a phenomenally capable car even as standard, and the average person (ie the ones with stupid ideas about what's an acceptable image) won't know the difference between it and a 22B, philistines that they are! If you want a P1, buy one!
I have a classic Impreza wagon which passes under the radar a little more than a P1 but I accept they're not to everyone's taste. They are vastly more practical though and mine has a TD05 18G turbo so certainly on a par for performance.

I still may buy a P1. It feels like it's on the borderline of acceptability... I agree about the Wagon; I think they are safe. The P1 is a phenomenally capable car even as standard, and the average person (ie the ones with stupid ideas about what's an acceptable image) won't know the difference between it and a 22B, philistines that they are! "acceptable"
to who?
I guess there are different levels.to who?
How about your father in law? That's a pretty good barometer.
I would say the list should now look a little more like this
- BMW 520d (530d is out, he thinks they're just too heavy on diesel)
- Audi A6 2.0Tdi (even the 1.9Tdi is ok, if he was pushed)
- Mercedes W124 diesel (not the modern ones, not reliable enough for him)
- Honda Accord 2.2d
- Skoda Superb 2.0Tdi
Interesting with respect to the Evo comment.
My Dad was in the market for something 'a bit fun' some time ago and chose the Evo 6 over the P1 (which is also odd as I went for a GT-R 33 over the P1). Should have seen the look on Mum's face when that 'thing' (as she called it) turned up
Priceless. But yet she absolutely loved driving it.

Yes, they are awesome... I know what Mrs Homologeo would say if I bought one though. My Dad was in the market for something 'a bit fun' some time ago and chose the Evo 6 over the P1 (which is also odd as I went for a GT-R 33 over the P1).
