Mum and her husbands cars stolen, now found

My mum's house was broken into at weekend
They stole jewellery and both cars from the driveway
Police phoned this morning to say the cars have been found
Personally I wouldn't want them back, but I'm not sure she can refuse them
Obviously the locks will need changing. Is there anything else they can demand? Engineers report to show up any mechanical damage?
