... and set them off on an infinitely long track at top speed...

Which would be in the lead?

A question posed this morning, too early for me to give it any proper thought, so I'm passing it over!

Initial thoughts were XJ220, 1992, 213mph or McLaren F1, 1993, 231mph.

1992 - 2014 = 22 years (8,760 x 22 = 192,720 hours @ 213mph = 41,049,360 miles)
1993 - 2014 = 21 years (8,760 x 21 = 183,960 hours @ 231mph = 42,494,760 miles)

Any other ideas?

That was manufacturer claimed, in reality it was about 110mph. But we can't exactly test it can we!

Ford Model T, 1908 = 8760 x 108 = 946080 hours x 45 mph = 42 573 600 miles.

VW Beetle, 1938 (Prototype) = 8760 x 76 = 665760 hours x 71 mph = 47 268 960 miles.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, 1954 = 8760 x 60 = 525600 hours x 161 mph = 84 621 600 miles.

Think my maths is right...

What about calculating fuel to weight ratio reduction, along with calculating fuel capacity distance.

Would the fastest car still get the furthest if it ran out of fuel the quickest?

I believe they did a lot of testing on the salt flats with these cars but I'm not sure how accurate the figures are
