Just watching 'Police Interceptors' on Ch 5. (It's available to watch on 'catch up') A biker was let off after caught and admitting to driving 80mph in a 40mph limit. (Though he was busted for other stuff - he was not prosecuted for speeding). Would a car driver be let off whilst driving 80mph in a 40mph limit?

If so... where?

Not seen the video but I doubt whether it was purely a bike versus car thing, am guessing that the biker went out of view for a few seconds from the police officer who was in pursuit, which any half-decent legal team would pick up on, and ask the officer something along the lines of 'can you say beyond reasonable doubt that this was the same biker you were following till you lost sight of him or her'.

All the biker has to say is that someone passed him wearing similar gear at a faster rate of speed than he was riding at.

At which point the trial would no doubt collapse!

Really?

If only motorised vehicles had unique registration marks so you could tell them apart, and police cars were equipped with recording equipment. Maybe one day... tongue out
