Thinking about buying an s2k but not 100% sure
Discussion
So I've run into quite a bit of cash and figured it's about time I stop driving my 300,000 mile CRX all the time and look for something...well...better. I've driven an s2000 hundreds of times and loved it even though it was my mom's. But ever since she sold it I wanted a car like that. And since the s2000 is in my price range (~$13,000 for car, $2-4,000 for modifications), I figured it might be a good second car choice.
Though I would absolutely love to take it to the track all the time, there are only drag strips around here, which are pointless to me since I enjoy curves and pushing it. Since that is the case, I'd mainly use it as a car to "safely" speed on back roads and on the interstate (safely meaning I wouldn't push it too much or put my self in too much danger). Also it'd be my show-off car since my CRX is nice but, well... yeah.
But one thing I remember about the s2000 was that the final drive made it so that it would whine sooo much on the interstate. Like, at 80mph it'd be at like 4,500 rpm or something. Since I'd be driving it about 100 miles on the interstate every so often idk if it's the right car for that or if it really matters.
So, my question is, would there be a better car for my situation? Also, are there any simple ways to make the s2k more of an interstate friendly car? I love the look of the s2000, and I'm aware the Miata would be a good choice but (no offense to Miata fans) it's a chick car. Nor do I want a Mustang, because EVERYONE around here drives one. I want something reliable, fast, good-looking, and decent on the interstate (both mpg and performance). And about $12,000. The only other cars I've considered is the 350z (but I don't like the fatality rate and a lot of my friends have one), the G35 coupe, and an FRS.
I'm in college atm if that effects anything.
Any help would be appreciated! I hope I posted this in the right place

Hello and welcome to PH, a friend of mine has had his S2000 for 18 months now and has been using it to commute to work, 60 miles a day on the motorway, he's now looking at changing it for an Alfa 159. I've driven it numerous times and they are more than happy on the motorway and it certainly shouldn't whine, sounds like your mums car may have had a fault.
One way to make them quieter in the cabin is to have a factory hard top, they make a huge difference and are very easy to remove and refit.

If the fatility rate is that high, a lot of your friends wont be driving one for long.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
