The wife got hit by a Perodua Myvi at a mini roundabout this morning by an old dear who stopped to give way then drove into my wife's car admitting "my foot slipped on the pedal". We've only had the car a week! Luckily nobody was hurt, every panel on the passenger side is damaged. I drove it the quarter of a mile home but the steering is damaged too. (before it gets inspected, does anyone have any views on the outcome. no air bags deployed, 2011 Ford Grand C Max Titanium value approx £10k).

Repairable, but 'beyond economic repair' IMO.

If its merely panel damage, repairable.

If its bent the A post or done major suspension damage then its a write off.

My guess a write off. I know of a golf of similar value damaged in a very similar way that was scrapped.

As you said, all panels, bumpers, paint tyres (if they have been hit) suspension damage? vat labour all the bits and that's an expensive job.

I'd imagine that'll get written off.

This is the bad bit. Doors and front wing are easy to replace. The damage here is structural and will need to be cut out and a new section welded in. Lots of the rear will need to be dismantled (inside and out) to do it.

If it is only the damage we can see - easy repair.

Now, is there steering/suspension/A Post/B Post/Sill damage, then a different kettle of fish.

What I will say that if it is written off, then it WILL be bought and repaired by someone.

Thanks for you input guys, I guess the structure has done it's job well, my son was in the passenger seat and is fine. I'll post an update when we know. Cheers.

Write off.

With the visible damage, cat D.

Suspension damage could change it to cat B.

Had the call to say they are going to fix it, not sure how I feel about that.
It's going on a jig, and it's going to take weeks to fix it.
Needs new steering arm + alloy + tyre and of course a bit of bodywork!
Been given a Renault Captur by Enterprise, looking at swapping that already.

Won't be a Cat.B, probably C. A jig and new suspension components wouldn't push it to £20k+!

Glad no one was hurt anyway - lol'd a bit at the photo with the oldies in the Perodua looking confused.

Looks reasonably new, but a bit confused about the Nexen tyre on the rear as you'd normally expect rear tyres to have little wear on a reasonably new FWD car. Unless it had a puncture of course.

Hopefully you'll get the car back better than new. How do these things affect manufacturer paint/corrosion warranties?

Write off or repairable sounds like a great name for a game show on Dave.

More like that crap program that Dominic Littlewood would do where they 'matched' a seller to a write off and then fixed it all in for the same market price as an uncategorised mint example.

Wrecks to Riches I think it was called. Not to be confused with the low budget Mike Brewer series.

I'm not an expert, but from personal experience I would expect a write-off.

A few years ago, somebody crashed into the back of me . The car had a dent on the rear, and a shattered rear bumper. I knew that insurance companies write-off cars for relatively minor damage, but I had third-party fire and theft. I opted to have the car repaired independently, at nearly HALF the cost of dealers and pricey "Accident Repair Centres". I'm not sure I could have done that with fully-comp.

I had a similar accident last year. Took out my passenger door and tore a hole in the rear side panel. Needed new door, new side panel and several other panels replaced. Also had 2 side airbags go off and one seat airbag resulting in new ones plus a replacement roof liner and seat back. (All on a 3 year old Megane 250).

It ended up being repaired and the car is good as new now. Car was worth about 14/15k and the repair was around 8k ish in total (which was well above the original estimates according to the repairing garage).

I didn't have any damage to the wheels or suspension though (missed it all thankfully!). I'm surprised it's being repaired, but I would have said it could have gone either way.

Yeh, OP kind of gave it away when he said it's a '2011 Ford Grand C Max Titanium value approx £10k.' Always best to read the thread in its entirety if you are going to comment.

Ops already answered that its getting fixed. I was in agreement with the poster above until that point.

I'm surprised they're up for jigging it, it suggests that it's structurally bent!

Get it back and et it traded in. At least it won't be recorded.
