Hi can anyone advise if the auto gearbox is at risk of getting messed up because of a remap?

Thanks

Edd

I ran mine remapped for 3 years with no issues.

Depends on age and condition and even then the sealed for life gearboxes do benefit from an oil change.

Also remember that the 3.0tdi and especially when remapped does produce a mountain of torque iirc mine was 500+nm so be a little respectful if trying to launch quick.

ZF 6hp gearboxes can handle plenty. It's the GM ones in the BMW diesels back in the day that were all getting knackered torque converters from raemaps.

I'd probably get the fluid changed as a precaution.

It's a ZF 6HP19A or 6HP21A box, depending on year. Most high-power applications get the bigger vesions 6HP26/28/32. The smaller ones are still quite good and will not be bothered by a simple remap. Just change the oil and filter regularly and it will be fine.

I bought my old one at 62,000 miles. Had it remapped at 64,000 miles. Gearbox died at 150,000 miles. It wasn't the cause of the failure, but it wouldn't have helped. Not once did I change the gearbox oil though, as I was lead to believe it was a lifetime oil. I won't make that mistake again.

Depending on the year, the injectors will be a bigger issue. I had to replace mine.
