Just been reading about this on daily mail online ,whilst i agree with it if you have kids in the car why should i not be able to smoke in my own vehicle when its not bothering anyone else .
It seems there is nowhere left now to escape the missus and have a smoke in peace

Does this mean I'll have to remove my transmission tunnel mounted bong or will I still be allowed to smoke while stationary?

Do people really believe what they read in the Daily Mail?

About time, see people distracted by their fag too many times. You would have thought that the stuff killing you was a big enough deterrent rolleyes

A good point well made.

I have never understood how it is legal. Technically drinking a can of coke is illegal but playing with fire is not. Dropping a lit fag on my lap would distract me from driving!

I agree: You should be allowed to smoke in your car. But only with the windows up. There is nothing worse than the person in front of you lighting up whilst sat in traffic.

If you think smoking while driving is dangerous, just wait until people are trying to hide that they are smoking while driving.

Or....perhaps people will stop smoking in cars. The ban worked with mobiles after all.

What has always surprised me is the number of cannabis smokers in cars first thing in the morning. When I'm on two wheels I encounter at least a couple on my way to work via Surrey / Sussex rural roads.

I can't stand people throwing lit butts out the window - should be 6 points minimum.

OP didnt actually read the article then.....

The law will be changed to ban smoking in cars carrying children

This is a good thing. I smoke but would never dream of smoking in the house at all , or in the car with the kids in it. You can smoke in the car as long as you dont have children in it at the time which is a good thing.

Just as distracting as having a phone in your hand IMO.

On a lighter note, I'm now imagining a new range of "hands free smoking" devices akin to a harmonica holder hehe

I would love to get all arsey about how people should be able to do what they want, but I can kind of see the point..

I used to smoke, In the car, and the van, which was technically illegal anyway (despite my boss not giving a monkeys).

I one somehow dropped my lit cigarette, which due to the window being down, went backwards, over my shoulder, into the back of the van.

Which was full of cardboard at the time...While I was doing 60ish.

That was interesting... stopped smoking in cars after that.

We could've guessed that at "Daily Mail".

Its already illegal to smoke in company vehicles, I never been pulled over for it or heard of anyone else been pulled for it how often do you see Gents smoking in their work vans?

Like most laws that are being introduced it ticks a box. Totally unenforcible with the amount of police you see on the roads.

It is not illegal to smoke in company vehicles, but don't let the facts worry you.

I don't smoke and wouldn't allow someone to smoke in my car. But what they do in their car, as long as I'm not in it, is up to them. It does seem strange that eating or drinking can be an offence, but smoking with all it's possible distractions and hazards is ok?
