Hi,

The other half was about to order a new car but found out the model she wants is getting a face lift with orders for new model starting end of Nov, she is not bothered about having non-face lift model. The dealer we first spoke to says he already has an order in for the existing model (non facelift) and there is still time to change the spec to what we want, considering this is for a non-face lift model should I expect a very good deal if we order it ? The car in question is in demand etc so its not like they will have loads avaliable in non facelift or at least thats what they are telling me.

If it's a car that's in stock somewhere in the country, and is about to be "last year's", then - yes.

If it's a factory order, then unlikely, especially if the production slots are still booked ahead.

As above, a factory order probably wouldn't get much, but a stock car probably will. I got over £3k off of my limited edition Fiesta as mine was the last of the pre-facelifts and was sat unregistered on the dealers forecourt. Having an 'in-demand' model may change things from my example, however.

What car is it, just out of interest?

I'll put my money on an Audi A6, if it is and a stock car is available with the spec you want take it, the waiting list is long.

Maybe a focus?
The facelift is due/is already out.

We seems to change ours once the facelift has been out for a month or two.

Sounds like Q3 to me, as Im in the same position with the same question!

However, I think its always worthwhile waiting for the facelift car, there usually better and have stronger residuals.

Manufacturers always like to be able to say "the new model is only £50 more expensive than the old". But if you buy a run-out model you should always insist on a hefty discount. Otherwise you might as well wait and get the new one.

Thanks for replies, yeah its an Audi Q3.

Girlfriend is getting a car allowance to replace current company car, in this situation what is the best option lease or PCP ? The Audi is a pcp deal, rate seems high 7.2%. The dealers been trying to sway her to PCP saying lease firms may charge a lot for repairs when car goes back, but I know it could be sorted before it went back, scuffed alloys etc. She set her heart on Q3, will lease firms get new facelift model quickly or do they have to wait for few months after dealers before they can take orders ?

Thanks

If the rate is 7.2% it's no wonder he's swaying her towards PCP

If she wants it and isn't fussed about the facelift, just get on and order it. You'll get the same discount if you push hard enough for either. Knowing VAG, you might get an additional £500 off for a pre facelift if there is stock they need to clear. As it's a factory order, it doesn't sound like this is the case.

Audi dealers will push for PCP because that is what the salesmen will be able to sell. Unlike some other manufactures, Audi Finance don't offer a lot of Personal Contract Hire, and they won't fund a new car with a different finance company. Ergo, the salesmen will push PCP as he can't sell a lease.

The lease companies will be able to order it as soon as the dealer can. The dealer however will get some demo cars sooner as those will have earlier build slots, but that is all.

As to if a lease is better than a PCP, it will depend on the costs. There is no one rule with this as it can depend on discounts available, deposit contributions etc.

And in regards to a lease company charging you more than a dealer for repairs is nonsense. The way it works is at the end of a lease your only option is to hand the car back, and they will charge you for any repairs which need doing subject to fair wear and tear. On a PCP, if you choose the option to hand it back, the exact same applies, with the same BVRLA wear and tear criteria. However, if they choose the option to Part Ex, obviously the value given by the dealer will reflect any damage on the car, so will just reduce the equity.

I know you said she's set on a Q3, but I've seen some cheap Evoque leases floating about also.

What does "cheap" look like for an a Evoque in this context?

I think the current going rate is about £320 a month on a 6 + 23 10k miles. Not sure on spec, think I saw a Pure with a Tech Pack. Probably the 2WD manual mind.

Unless it's the RSQ3 - in which case she's fabulous.

OP i'd check the deal with a broker or 2 first, my local Audi dealers idea of an an'amazing' Q3 deal was 2%, only being offered because we had purchased from them before and they made it quite clear that this was as far as they could go. The broker (carfile) got me something like 10% and I ordered through their dealer. The point being that if the amazing deal doesn't match up to a broker price then order the facelift. It'll be worth more when you sell/px too...
