I've noticed these are quite common here but bare with me please!

I'll be getting my first car over the next few months and my knowledge is pretty limited...

I'm 18 just now so insurance is obviously the main issue, budget for the car and insurance is around £5k.

I like the look of Mini's and Fiat 500's but they're pretty common and probably out of budget anyway, so hopefully you can think of something more interesting for me

Get the cheapest ( including insurance ) car you can.

You are at the beginning of your driving career - and financially you will be hit hard on insurance.
