Not really a rant, more of a slightly unpleasant surprise.

Just got off the phone to Carole Nash to discuss adding another bike to my policy and apparently, as my work location is not fixed at the start of the year and will change part way through the year, I need business use on my bike policy, not just commuting.

The additional sum that they are charging me is reasonable and at least the policy is spot-on now (according to their rules) going forwards, but I do find it rather odd as commuting to me means travelling to and from a place of work and I always thought business use would be visiting clients, travelling between different locations during the day or perhaps a new location each day, etc.

If you are at a permanent place until the middle of the year and then changing to a new permanent address then this isn't Class 1.

If you travel to different addresses in any given week/month then it is Class 1.

Do you mean that is the case at the beginning of every year, or do you mean that your company happens to be relocating this year?

If both places are your permanent place of work, and it just flips over from one to the other, I'd say that is commuting; if your employment contract is "location independent" then yes, it sounds like travelling on business.

Just a simple case of one project completing and another commencing. Duration could be from a few months to 18+.

I found it odd and a little nonsensical, but at least I'm covered fully according to the(ir) rules and the wallet damage isn't too daft.
