Sold my sister's old (MoT failure) Mk 1 (1999) Ford Ka for scrap yesterday.

Anyone guess how much I got for it?

I was pleasantly surprised but that may be because I had very low expectations!

£100 is normally the rate, I got around that for a Puma not so long ago

Did you actually sell it for scrap or to a trader that will tart up the bare minimum and have it in the classifieds next week for £995?

If a proper scrap yard, £100 even is pushing it around here!

Let's see, standard scrap is £90-100 per tonne and a Ford Ka weighs less than 1 Tonne , nearer 850kg which ought to suggest it's worth barely £80 but I have heard of one or two people getting nearer £150 and other scrap yards (like the two nearest to me) who will not pay you FFFF all for a Ka.

£80-£90 seems about the limit around these parts.

Add a tenner if it's got alloys.

Add another tenner if it can be dropped off at the scrappy, rather than collected.

Some good estimates.

£80. Though must admit I expected £50, as such was pleased. Collected within an hour.

Alloys should actually be worth quite a bit.

I got £20 a while ago for an old greenhouse frame and I'm sure prices have gone up since.

What is the actual scrap value of alloy wheels, anyone?

I just bought a set for a Corsa C for £20

A tenner is all my local scrappy will offer.

That said, looking at the recent office block, showroom and complete refurb they've just completed, it is probably way too cheap.

Mk1 Ka. Did it fail as it wasn't worth the labour price to replace the front headlight bulb?

No alloys. Removed (and kept) the Halfords wheel trims I originally fitted as my sister didn't like the look of steel wheels. rolleyes

I'm sure I remember the days when you had to pay someone to take scrap cars away. I'm not that old so it couldn't have been that long ago.

If it's much like most of the Mk1 Ford Kas that I see then it'll have lost about 100KG to rust holes by now

I had a rotten ford KA which ran out of MOT. It was never going to pass another so phoned a few scrappies. They all offered roughy £80 if I drove it to them.
Ended up going on that my car take back (or something like that) site. They picked it up and gave me £155 for it!

Scrap prices have dropped big time this year, 2 years ago scrap was £180per tonne. I break a few mx5 for parts beginning of last year I scraped a mk2 shell full of scrap with 10 car batteries and 2 cars a mx5 shell weighs 400kg with the scrap and the rest got £180 all in.
£90 for the scrap think it was £130 per tonne and it weighed 700kg the 2 cats were £40 and £50 for the batteries.

I scrapped 2 mx5 shells last weekend with scrap combined weight 850kg and got £65 quid 4 batteries and 2 cats and got more for them than the scrap hardly worth the effort these days.

It's all very well talking about scrap at £90 a tonne but if you need a replacement door, mirror or any second-hand other bits they don't sell them by weight; A scrapper only has to sell the bonnet and doors to get his £80 back.

yes All the classic places. It had lost so much weight I almost stuck a CSL badge on it!

That's what the chap who collected it mentioned as well.

That's what ANYONE I've ever sold scrap to EVER has said, no matter what the prices were like!
