New Lagonda could come to Europe after all

Aston's new boss admits company is considering bringing the new Lagonda saloon to a wider audience

Well, that didn't take long. No sooner has Aston Martin officially unveiled its "Middle East only" Lagonda in Dubai than the company's new boss, Andy Palmer, admitted that serious consideration is being given to selling the XXL saloon elsewhere.

Come on, they're British plates; sell it here?
Come on, they're British plates; sell it here?
"It's clear from initial reaction to the car that interest from around the world is extremely high," Palmer said at the launch, "and I can confirm today that we are also evaluating the opportunity to offer this Lagonda in other markets."

Okay, so there was no official mention of the UK, but it we'd be surprised if Britain wasn't on the list; home team advantage and all that.

If it comes here it will certainly be the sort of car to get you noticed - at 5.4 metres in length it's big enough to put even a long-wheelbase S-Class in the shade, although probably not the new Maybach. Power will come from Aston's long-serving 5.9 litre V12, and will presumably also share the same eight-speed automatic box as fitted to the Vanquish, Rapide S and DB9.

There's still no word on price, but we can guarantee it's not going to be cheap.

Quelle surprise....

Still a nice and fresh looking thing, assuming it looks as good in the flesh.

"other markets" presumably being the likes of Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Baku, Moscow...

Sort of car I drew as a kid using a ruler. A bit like the 1976 Lagonda except that actually had style and looked like nothing else. This could perhaps be mistaken for a Chrysler 300

There's a cartoon character that looks quite similar to the front picture of this, but I can't quite place him/it.

So they take the grill off a Mondeo and turn it upside down. Cheeky.

I liked it at first and I still like it. I'm sure they could sell a few dozen each year in the £250k range

Eww! FFS, Aston, if in the short- to medium-term all you're going to do is keep rehashing the VH platform and 6.0 V12 in a different frock - just make the Rapide shooting brake confused

It makes me think of Atomic Bomberman, but it doesn't really look anything like it.

Interesting. It looks good in pictures, can't wait to see it in the flesh. Nice to see an AM product not following the form that they have since 2004.

Some styling hints from the Bill Towns Lagonda - which I hated! :-(

You can use all the marketing skills in the world but you can't cure ugly.
