...that no one who lives there knows how to fking use them?

On my way to work this afternoon, I came to this roundabout which I use every time.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.0330713,-0.69173...

As you can see, Lane one is for going left only, lane two is for straight on only and lane three is for going straight on and right. I was in the right hand lane, and there were cars in the other two.

As you go onto the roundabout, lane two should move to lane one, lane three moves to lane two if going straight on and anyone in lane three who is going right stays in lane three.

So why is it that 95 times out of a hundred, some brain dead motorist goes from lane two to lane two, cutting me up and then wonders why I have the audacity to be annoyed about it by leaning on the horn in my car? The wker who did it to me today even tried to point out MY mistake! I've had people from lane one on the roundabout trying to go all the way around and cutting me off from going straight ahead as well. You'd think the city built around roundabouts would know how to fking use them?

Or may it is me that is in the wrong? Saying that, I never have this issue in Aylesbury..

I think you're expecting too much.

I've learned to go with the flow. Less chance of a collision, and I can wander around the roundabout as much as I like without anyone (except people like me) caring.

Many people can't drive properly. Drive defensively with the occasional sigh or muttered swear in response. Keeps the blood pressure down. smile

OP whatever you do don't come to Redbridge roundabout.

https://goo.gl/maps/Iu2kS

It looks so simple doesn't it?

But I challenge you to try and turn right by using the correct lane and not be blocked off at every turn eg:

I remember doing the same when in Italy, if the op thinks Milton Keynes is bad he needs to try it there. Over there you can head in any direction you like, doesn't matter what lane you are in. In fact I think it's customary to cut people up and the faster you do it the more acceptable it is.

Most people don't think about what they're doing, and if queuing traffic is covering the arrows the braindead don't stand a chance of getting it right.

That roundabout was my first taste of driving in London. I'd spent 3 hours on empty motorways and then hit that fking thing, what a nightmare!

I have to use that roundabout 5 or 6 times a year and I've never found it a problem

Not been massively keen on directional lanes, especially when it restricts flow.

Councilor tried to get arrows put on the J28 Brook Street roundabout on the M25 and was greatly confused when everyone ignored them, idiots like that think they can legislate everything.

As per Champs d'Elysee, put it in gear and go!

OP, you just touched a nerve and I agree. Even when it's painted the majority have zero clue. The city system is very good and works well but all too often you get tools in the wrong lane going for the wrong exit. Same as everywhere really smile

I too work in MK and my observation is it's got too big and the original, rather clever road system cannot cope. During rush hour people choose the lane that's least congested and I've even started doing it myself, even cutting through housing estates (carefully) to avoid the busiest roads.Sometimes it takes 40 mins to get from the centre of MK to the M1 which is ridiculous so I say drive like you are competing in Death race 2000 smile

The one further up V11 at H7 is the same too.

It's because it's quite an unnatural line as the left laners need to go quite far left to go straight on.

I've just come to expect it now.

Not sure about that, I think you'll find that those type of marking are advisory, they're not issuing an instruction.

I'm taking the side of nightmare.

Nobody in the correct lane and general carnage.

This. Arrows are advisory while arrows & writing are compulsory "supposedly".

My dash cam will be going back in.

Based on the replies of others re the white arrows being advisory, cool, I'm going to fit some bull bars and go ramming other cars! biggrin When I get claimed against, I will reply that the roads dont control me, man, I'm my own man, man, and I can do what I want at roundabouts, man hehe

The link in the OP shows the markings for the left lane have clearly been changed and not been done very well, you can still see the straight on marking which are meant to have been erased and it may well have been straight on in that lane for decades until recently .
So considering that this roundabout in particular would be one you should be proceeding with caution on rather than getting worked up and getting on the horn to anyone who happens to make the mistake of being in the wrong lane.

I usually do not let it bother me and just accept that other road users are idiots. After the x number of times I have had people cut me up on roundabouts in MK, or tried to take the 3rd exit when when they're in the far left hand lane and causing me to perform an emergency stop before they took my front end off, I think I might be allowed to be a little aggrieved. I do plan for this to happen to always hold back and let the car to the left of me go first so I can follow behind them.

I don't live in MK, I only pass through it, yet I manage to read the arrows perfectly fine. So why can't others? Why in reality should I have to accept other drivers poor driving? Will you be so charitable when someone does this to you and you end up having an accident?

Yeah there is substance to this, but when you get onto the roundabout they're still clearly marked as well.
