Hi guys,

So I have a Nissan GTR, which is on for sale at £35,000. I have dealer who is willing to give me £35,000 next week. The car has existing finance on it, so they will settle the figure to the finance company(£29.000) and bank transfer me the remaining (£6,000). Then that's a done deal, now they own the car.

The reason for my sale is simply I want a more economical car, so I've been browsing pistonheads/autotrader and have found the perfect Audi A4 which I like,

The Audi A4 is worth £15,000. So I'm wondering, how will the part exchange work in this case? Would I be better off or not? The dealership specialises in all kinds of cars from Ferraris to Audi's, so luckily I think they would want the GTR.

Thanks! smile

They'd give you a value for the GTR. That would be X. Since every other value in this equation is fixed, the only question is: is X greater than £35,000? If yes, then PX it, if not, sell it and use the cash.

Question is, how much can someone with a GTR and eyes for an Audi which will cost £9k in cash really need to save a few hundred quid a year in fuel?

It could be lazy wording in your OP, and what you really need to save is £600/month in finance. £2000/year in tyres. £1500/year in servicing etc, but if you really are doing this just for the fuel, I'd consider very much keeping the GTR and doing a couple of hours overtime.

Simon.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Well I'm wanting to buy a house so degrading the car is a must considering the payments per month on the GTR is around £700 a month. Where as on the Audi per month it would be only £200 a month. So that's £500 difference, not forgetting the maintenance costs of running a GTR. Servicing, MOT, Tax, Petrol, if something goes wrong with it etc. This is what I meant by more economical. So yeah you're right in regards to that. Apologies for not making it clear.

I just don't want to say to the dealer "Would you want to trade a GTR for it?" Because he may assume, I have some 'money' which may not give me much leverage to negotiate the price for the Audi.
