In the real world, if I wanted RWD, I'd probably buy an M3, but then I'm 40 and BMW have a marketing target in their sights.

The reality of living with something brash, noisy, old and often unreliable/histrionic can be a bit annoying.

Boring choice, but i'd have a C63 AMG estate.

Can take the kids (and all their stuff) over to the grandparents and then have a bit of fun on the way home.

Assuming this isn't your only car, I'd buy something extremely good to drive for about £10k and pocket the rest. I don't think you need to spend more than that to get something as involving to drive as anything out there and that's all I care about (not fussed about image etc.).

So basically, some kind of kitcar or maybe an Elise/VX + a chunk off my mortgage.

Yes, a Sagaris in that exact colour or something just as unique but from Japan. Maybe a concourse quality Skyline R34 for just under £30k and use the rest of the funds to go nuts on building a reliable 600-700 bhp track weapon.

Isn't it lucky that this is imagination rather than reality wink

After the Car of the Year test in EVO I would go for anything but an M3/M4 unfortunately.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was imaginary. FWIW I would repeat my last two purchases around this budget, but they are grounded in reality: GTR and S8. The rest would be a PITA in more ways than a GTR which is bad enough to live with as an only car.

The M4 will sell because it is real, and when spending your own hard earned it is different, imaginary nonsense is for children and adult toys wink M4 is an all rounder and not directly replaceable by one other like the imaginary alternatives.

Scratch that.
The best E46 M3 I could find, a good holiday and a chuck off the mortgage, or a bigger narrow boat.

997 Turbo has a nice ride quality, could easily replace M4.

I hated my E46 M3, brakes and suspension were awful on B roads where they should shine, and it was difficult to find a nice lightly used one in 2005 never mind now. Most overrated car ever IMHO.
