Don't see much written about these but they look exceptional value. Anybody had/got one - are they any good. Had mixed experiences with Peugeot, had a 406 24v executive estate which was a fantastic car and the girlfriend had a 307 CC which was truly awful!

From what year did JLR use that engine? I'm driving a 2014 RR Sport 3.0 D for work at the moment and the engine/ auto is superb

I've had one for the past year. Good stuff includes the looks, the build (no really, it was built on a separate line to other 407s and feels pretty well screwed together as French things go). The std kit on most 2.7s is pretty good including xenons all electrics including heated leather recaros and a brilliant jbl stereo. I drove it through Europe a couple of months ago with no problems and it was really comfortable and quiet thanks to those seats and dbl glazing. Pretty pokey when it's up and running too.

Downsides are that there is a lot to go wrong re the level of kit. Althogh outside a service since I've had it I've only had to replace a brake light switch and the alternator but it's almost reached 100k so to be expected. Foibles include lower ball joints which forums will have you believe last 30k miles, and egr valves. It is pretty heavy so mpg dips below 30 if you're not a frequently on the motorway.

Overall really happy with it.

I bought one last year, drunk bidding on eBay.
The gearbox was playing up so I walked. Oh, and the complete lack of (promised) service history, and the exhaust particulate filter warning message was on, meant that I didn't complete the sale :-(
Lovely car. I believe the auto box is only just rated for the torque of the engine and is a bit of a weak point.
Leather dash. Double glazing. Mmm. Waft-tastic.
