Hi Guys.

I was floating around on the internet as usual, and I came across one of these "detective services" agency's website that do spy work on e.g. divorce cases, etc. - and I saw that they use devices similar to these; http://www.spytechs.com/gps/TracKing.htm

From the looks of it, they're magnetic and so I would think that they'd be stuck to some hidden part of the car.

I wonder, does anyone on here have any experience of these? Is there a 'usual' place where these devices are placed? If breaking bad is anything to go by, my best guess would be on the inside of my wheel arch!

Most wheel arches are not magnetic now... Plenty of places to stick something though. Why do you actually want to know? It's not very moral to be stalking your ex or wife. If you really wanted to follow wifey you could just install stuff on her phone.

It is extremely sad to be stalking someone. But good luck with your new hobby.

Why do you need one of these? Does your partner have a smartphone? Have a look at the google location services - there's a log of every place you've been for years right there on your browser!

don't do it unless you have extreme self control.

You may have to spend weeks gathering info before you pounce. You will only have one shot at confronting.

Quite early on you will know whats going on but you will have to pretend that everything is peachy until you get enough to give them nothing to come back to you with.

Do not give them an opportunity to explain their actions. Gather more than you need so you can shock and awe into a confession. Anything less and you'll be the ahole that didn't trust your partner and you will forever be on the back foot.

Hope its not what you fear, but if it is, hope you get enough usable info to have the upper hand.

The biggest kick in the bks when being cheated on is being fooled, when you show that you've been one step ahead it helps MASSIVELY with the healing process.

Yes, i speak from experience smile

Find a friend on the iPhone works well, or find my iPhone if you know the password.

Woah woah guys, seriously - I don't want to stalk anyone!! I'm more concerned about someone stalking me!

I'm not going into details here, but lets just say that if this person knows about such technology, it would probably be used on me. I'm not doing anything wrong, but I don't like to be watched either.

(Also, I have a passcode on my smartphone, so I think it will be difficult for someone to install a GPS tracking virus on my phone. It is android however, which I suppose is more susceptible to such apps than iOS!)

Seriously? So I start a thread on something, and everyone just assumes that the real story is something entirely different, and starts accusing me of being up to no good? I would NEVER stalk someone, especially considering how I don't like the idea of someone stalking me!

Why do you want to know how it could/would be done then?

Actually stuff that - I believe you. If someone wants to track you, then realistically they are going to be able to. There is very little/nothing you can do to stop it. So personally I wouldn't worry about it.

So I can keep an eye out for the device, and remove it. It can only be in an external location as the person in question does not have access to my keys.

Also think about its signal, if it was in a tin box it wouldn't work.

If you find one, stick it on a bus for a laugh. Should keep them busy.

If there is a real danger of your being stalked, best thing would be to drive to somewhere entirely innocent and then switch cars before proceeding to your girlfriend's place. Park in the next street just to be extra safe. And have a shower with unscented soap before going home.

If your really worried, and you are sure they don't have access to keys, how about putting the car up on a ramp and have a look? It looks like it will stand out. If you don't have access to one then take it to the local tyre & brakes place or your mechanic if you have a local garage (Preferably the kind of place that will show you the car) and tell them you have a scraping noise from one of the wheels when you brake or some other noise that means they have to put the car up on a ramp and look underneath. Tell them it is intermittent.

Ok, I'll add a bit more meat to this.

The potential stalker or stalkers would actually be my parents. We are an Indian family, and they like to keep an eye on things. The truth is that I don't have a girlfriend/wife/etc. but my parents wouldn't ever take that as an answer. I'm not doing anything "wrong" (even by their definition of wrong), but at the same time I do not want to be watched; its sort of like a few years ago when there were privacy concerns about putting CCTV up everywhere, but on a much smaller scale of course.

That's not a bad idea actually, I'll have a look underneath
