Advice please.
I need to go from Dartford to Guilford for a one-off job. I never use the M25 in the morning so, what is the latest early time in the morning I should leave and still avoid the traffic. Is 6.30am too late for instance ? I was thinking of leaving at about 9.30am but would then get stuffed at the end of the day so would rather leave early but not too early......

I go the other direction every morning. At 7am it's bumper to bumper and not moving most mornings at junction 10 where you'll need to come off. So you need to make sure you're in Guildford by no later than that time. I'd be leaving no later than 6.

9.30 will be no help either as it'll still be fairly busy then

Just me personally, but I'd rather leave at 5am and be there for 6.15 having a coffee, than leave at 6am and run the risk of the journey taking 2.5 hours.

I find sitting in jams particularly soul destroying.

Further to this one, I have to collect someone from Gatwick at about 6pm on Friday... what time should I leave Bedfordshire to make sure I get there early enough to miss the majority of the jams? I'm tempted to spend a while in Crawley rather than get to the airport super late with a sore clutch leg...

Tell them to get the train!

Friday afternoons are a nightmare all the way through till 7 or 8pm.

The world turns to st around 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Busy beforehand but rarely stationary, but after 4pm it becomes awful. I travel round every Friday from the M1 to A3...

I would seriously ask them to get the Thames Link train to St Albans or Luton Parkway, it's a direct train service from Gatwick and will be much much quicker for them than you trying to drive back round London. Heck, I would even go on the train to meet them.

Thursday.

I feel your pain, picked a few relatives from Gatwick on the Friday Afternoon/Evening flight - leave at mid-day, no later and find a restaurant around Gatwick or Crawley or somewhere close away from the M/Ways.

Otherwise you are subject to the Friday rush which will involve a queue from Jct 29 A127 all the way to the bridge and then from Jct 5 through to Jct 7 - Journey should take 2 hours from Beds but might take 6... it is a lottery the M25 on a Friday

If he's In Bedfordshire it will be A1 or M1. Much better off going around Heathrow rather than over the bridge.

+1

M25 normally very worth avoiding Mon - Fri 7am to 9am and 4pm to 7pm.

Sun 6pm - 8pm and Fri 2pm - 4pm also worth avoiding the weekenders.

It's Europe's busiest road for a reason !

I assume the M23 is still down to one carriageway?

The awkward bit is that we're meant to be crashing out near Faversham that night (family there), d'oh. How I forgot that detail. Well, the train is still the easiest solution. Cheers!

Only ever had to go the other direction on a Friday afternoon. I was almost going to sit in a cafe in Crawley and drink my own weight in coffee while reading a book.

I've had to do this very same journey a few times when staying over in Gatwick and getting an early flight on a Saturday.

We used to leave just after lunch on a Friday and still get snarled up around Heathrow.

Once, the west side was screwed due to an accident so we decided to go the long way clockwise. 4 hours later, we arrived at the airport....

Do you really need someone to explain why the M25 is busy at those times?
