Just watching News footage of the Blizzards in the USA. Even all fifty states are freezing... did I hear that right?

So. The Jet Stream being what it is, how long before those low temperatures reach our little group of Islands?

Last time we had uber-low temperatures arriving sooner than expected the several car enthusiasts' sites I visit had sad stories of cracked engine components owing to poor or lack of anti-freeze.

Check yours now just in case even if it had a pro-service recently.

Our cold doesn't come from America so no need to worry about that and for the time being we be lucky to see temps below 0 so unless your coolant is purely water haven't got much to worry about.

A fiend of mine posted a photo on FB this week of her son who is 6ft 3" tall up to his chin in snow and he lives near NY. It was a drift either, it had laid that deep all over!

Amazing!

Minus 20c and snowing tonight , as it has been for the last 5 days . Cars plugged in and all will work in the morning , life goes on regardless .

Maybe not freezing but corrosion and lower boiling point
Without fresh antifreeze is something to worry about !!

This. Also don't think that pure undiluted antifreeze will give enhanced protection. It won't.

Had it changed in August. If it got so cold my old stuff would be freezing in the block I don't think I would be leaving the house anyway...

.... biggrin

It would appear most PHers know their OATs .... Hey nearly a pun .. wink

Bit nippy outside nights locally so ... like the Boy Scouts .. best be prepared.

Best to avoid cracked blocks or heads, easy in soft alloys many engines are made of nowadays. As others rightly point out, poorly maintained coolant will attack and corrode alloy, steel and iron engine components.

So, if you're in the "Why fix it if it aint broke" camp... best to change your ways without delay if not sooner .. hehe
