Trackers - why bother?
Discussion
I must be missing the point and I apologise if its been asked and answered lots of times before but best quote for renewal with tracker is £410 - best quote without £430 (same company was best for both on meerkat so unless something buried in the small print, exactly the same cover) - cost of tracker for the year £215. And it they ever stole the car I'd probably prefer never to see it again.
At one point it was compulsory for certain cars, but it seems less so all the time. Ironic that as tracker technology improves, the push for them decreases.

You may not see a large discount but other people do, for example ..At one point it was compulsory for certain cars, but it seems less so all the time. Ironic that as tracker technology improves, the push for them decreases.

Depends on how at risk the insurers perceive the car is to theft.
I've certainly never been in a situation where it's worth-while, but I can imagine it is in some very high insurance risk situations.
Don't forget four figure insurance premiums are pretty much the norm for young drivers these days and for anything remotely interesting it can be well into four figures.

I hope I can be excused for not following the landy sub forum
£3.5k to £600 sounds madness to me. The only time I saw this type of thing was a few years ago on a different car where companies wouldn't quote without one leaving an expensive option on the comparison sites for a company that were expensive with or without a tracker

Of course

However there is a significant issue with prestige 4x4s being stolen at the moment (Land Rovers incl) so large premiums are being applied due to the loss ratio on them.

Thats the odd thing - tracker is for risk of being stolen - a young driver doesn't change that, just more likely to bend it round a lamp post where a tracker makes no difference. And interesting cars? I'm quoting against a 1 year Aston Martin so not exactly boring. Not your typical ram raid car or car thats stolen for export to south africa which is probably the real risk they're required to protect against I guess.

Indeed, but nature of the statistical models the insurance companies use such that they are limited in what correlations they can draw. Statistical modelling isn't simple or cheap. ZOLLAR said:

I think the discounts are less because the robbers know how to find/disable/jam the trackers.
This is the other problem, if a thief can steal a high value vehicle without keys do you think locating or jamming a tracker is beyond their ability?kambites said:

I can top that saving! At one point it was compulsory for certain cars, but it seems less so all the time. Ironic that as tracker technology improves, the push for them decreases.
We have just bought a 2nd hand 09 smax, which it turned out had a tracker fitted. I was quite pleased, as I thought it'd be a considerable saving! Whacked in the details with and without. Total saving for tracker active?
1 pound.
Don't think I'll bother tbh!
