Hi All,

I'm trying to find a product, similar to the Scan-gauge product but with a more visual appeal and more graphical.

So does such a product exist?

I don't want a wireless one for use with my phone, I would like to plug it in and see the various OBD readings on a display (like a windscreen mounted satnav).

I also understand, some of these tools can also monitor 0-100, 1/4 times etc?

So what are my options?

Torque works on some cars depending on the software used

Isn't this where the good, old-fashioned "boost gauge" comes into its own?

i can guaranty you won't find what you are looking for without paying at least 2-3x what you could buy a cheap tablet, torque app pro and a bluetooth obd connector for

To ben honest, I was looking for a monitor & lead to plug straight in to the OBD2 port and then stick on to the screen like an after market satnav?!

Otherwise the dashcomand looks brilliant.....which OBD Dongle would I need to purchase, there are thousands of different models on ebay?!?!?

Help.

You could expand on my suggestion by buying a cheapo tablet, get a 'RAM mount' tablet mount and then load torque/dashcommand or whatever onto the tablet. I think that ticks all the boxes you're looking for?

Just beware about the difference between Wifi and Bluetooth OBD adapters. The Wifi ones only work with iPhones and the Bluetooth ones only work with Android devices. It's something to do with the fact that the iPhone doesn't have the correct bluetooth protocol installed to decode the information from the adapter and the same for Android but Wifi instead.

As an educated guess you need to have a device that runs an OS that you then load the OBD software onto. AFAIK there is no dedicated 'OBD OS' that you can install onto a device or an ODB adapter that has software baked in that sends the visual data via video out.

I guess for usability you could set the OBD software to load when the tablet loads and then lock the tablet into that app. I would say setting an app to load at start up is only going to be potentially possible on Android (you would need to 'root' the device) as you can't modify protected OS files on iOS (I'm pretty sure this isn't possible even if you 'jailbreak' iOS). I hope that makes sense!

I guess you could install a vi box as you say but the tablet route is going to be faaaaaar easier and cheaper than ripping your car apart to put a computer in there.

Thanks Swanny,

I think you are right, probably better to connect via bluetooth and purchase the DashCommand.
