Hey, basically I inherited my Grans car when she passed away.

She bought the car brand new and I am pretty sure she transfered her private reg straight onto it when she bought it.

I want to know if I sell the plate as it means nothing to me where can I get a standard reg from or should it already have one even though she put her reg straight onto it?

How are you intending to sell the plate? Straight from the car or put it onto a retention certificate first?

As soon as the registration is transferred DVLA will issue the car with an age-related registration, even if the car has never had one before.

If you get the relevant form from DVLA here (https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/transferring-a-registration-number) everything is fairly self-explanatory.

Good luck.

My plan was to use the money from selling it to buy a private reg thats more relevant to me. Would it be easier to buy my private reg first?

Ps Thanks for the link!

Unless it's a strong plate, I really wouldn't bother trying to sell it. It will take an age. If it's tied to the car then it might help sell the car....

Also, DVLA are stupidly slow at the moment - I sent in a transfer request to move a plate from one of my cars to the other a month ago.

If it's a really good plate (a name, few letters or numbers) then eBay might be a good bet.

Find a reg you want from a dealer of such things and ask them what to do.

I got a quote from national numbers and they quoted me £1500 for the plate, it has a one in it so i think that may up its value. X1 XXX
