Saloon.
Missus thinks we should take my car on hols, rather than the normal estate. However, I can currently only drive an auto(ACL Rehab), hence the E39.
Cheap and reliable, with no great attachment, but leather, back seat, dog....

Just throw a blanket over it and rock on?
Labrador likes puddles and water...
Hmmm

Nope my father in law used to put a young, excitable Springer Spaniel in the back of his then new 735i, she ruined the rear seats, all claw marks in the leather.

I would take the squab out and put a dog bed in its place.

Yes, it's just a car and bits of car can be repaired or replaced.

You can get a hammock that hangs from the front and rear headrests, quite cheap to quite expensive:-

http://www.gbdriver.co.uk/dog-hammock-rear-seat-co...

He/She may try and burrow under it if they like the feel of leather, but it will protect the seats fro most of the mud etc

Our dog almost always travels on the back seat even though we have an estate. It lets you cover the luggage from prying eyes.

The hammock prevents the unrestrained dog from falling in the footwell in an emergency stop as well.

take the base out, wrap it in a tarp, then a blanket, put it back in upside down.

Seatbelts aren't affected.

Or just take it out.

E39 is reaching old banger status now so why not?
Just make sure Mutley is prepared for the trip

We had one of these when I had my Jag. Our Staffy really seemed to like it as she didn't slide about on corners.

Dog travels on the back seat of the Saab estate. The boot is usually full of stuff. I've just cleaned the seats today, they were absolutely filthy with mud. Most of it has come off with a quick wipe over.

yes its only a bmw.

Although I would put a cover on the seats as I find leather seats and dogs don't mix as dogs tend to slide all over the place!

We occasionally look after a friend's dog. We took him on holiday to the New Forest earlier in the year.

I thought it a bit mean to put him in the boot (E36 Touring) so I put an old sheet down on the back seat so he had somewhere to sit. Unfortunately he wasn't having any of it and insisted on sitting up front sneaking through the gap over the arm rest and straight into the gf's lap!

I'd get the dog hammock. And since it will be holiday season (I presume when you go) with all the only drive on holiday drivers around, fit a harness to the rear belts. Might save you/passenger and dog from nasties if you stop really fast and approx 30 KG of dog flies forward into rear of front seat occupants. ( What springs to mind is a warning we had in our work vans converted to carry folks in the rear passenger compartment. )One vehicle with two in front and a few in rear ( one not wearing a belt)was involved in a shunt. Rear passenger & driver were klled when rear passenger was thrown into rear of driver .
Then again,I might seem a bit pedantic, but my dogs,or anything/one I care about only ever travels in that part of a vehicle where there is a passenger safety cage.

I'd put the dog in, but get a cover for the seats. I just bought a pair of front seat covers for my Beemer for £20 from Amazon, and the same retailer had full back seat covers too.

Nope. Your car will stink for weeks...

If you have to, nail it to your parcel shelf.
