the windows are going a bit 'skew' when going up as though the glass is sticking in the runners, or the lifters are catching in their runners ( so same sort of problem) whats the best non grease lubricant to use to get them running smooth again

Almost certainly needs replacement of the complete regulator.

The window not going up straight can be caused by a problem with the regulator.

My own car had a rear window which did tended to raise slightly too slowly on one side. The problem was caused by one of the regulator arms not being correctly located in the channel attached to the bottom of the window.

On my car (an old Jaguar) the channel is screwed onto the bottom of the window. On many cars, I believe it is simply glued. If yours is, then it could be the channel has come loose, so the regualtor isn't pulling the window up properly.
