Nice Simple question, My Car needs a service and uses 0W-40 Fully Synthetic oil. Looks to be about £50 for 4 litres and I need 9 ltr. So any recomendations as to where to buy cheaply. ?

Mail order or local I only have eurocarparts.

Thanks

Check opieoils to see if they have any offers.

Also check Volkswagen TPS if you have one local. They sell their own brand oils plus the whole Castrol range and I've never seen anywhere cheaper.

I do a lot of miles so found buying 20l sums of eurocarparts triple Qx a very economical way of doing it, Think I paid around £40 for 20L of fully synthetic which was enough for a couple of oil changes.

Halfords if you can get hold of a trade card or staff discount card.

Or also Opie but check about as he sometimes has offers on nearer the end of the month.

That's who I use, though they're not hugely cheap without a discount code.

I've found that ECP's ebay shop is occasionally even cheaper than buying direct (and with free delivery).

Try costco if there is one near you. They have 0W40 Mobil 1 for around £25 a tub.

You need to be a member but if you know someone who has membership then ask them for a favour.

Synthetic of correct viscosity = good. BUT...make sure it meets, (preferably certified to), the correct specs for your engine. There are lots of weasel words used for lube oils; "Meets the requirements of...". "Suitable for use in...". Cheap is desirable, correct is a must. It's the cheapest form of maintenance there is and you've no idea whether, or not, it's doing a proper job until it's too late. (Usually some long time down the road unless you really get it wrong).

I buy 20 litre tubs of TripleQX from eurocarparts cheaply - no idea if they'll do your grade though

Pretty meaningless description by today's standards. Find out the recommended ACEA sequence for your car and then search ebay for someone selling it.

I picked up ACEA C2 (very specifically for DPF equipped cars) 5w30 for the last service on our 307 - 5 litres for £12 from an ebay seller, brand and spec normally retails for £30.

Eurocarparts often have silly offers

Supermarkets often have clearance

I just buy it when I see it cheap and keep some in stock so I have 6 months to find the next lot

I get mine from the local motor factor. They use Comma oil and I just ask for spec to match the car. It usually works out just under Halford's retail price if I buy in 5 litre cans. Loads cheaper if I buy in 45 litre drums. I've got one big drum for the VAG Diesels, one for the Ford Diesels and other stuff (MX5, bikes etc) gets bought by the 5 litre as I need it.

ECP were doing 5 litres of 5w30 fully synthetic for about £19 last week on line. Stupidly cheap and lower than you can buy it with an account in their stores.

I normally get mine from eurocarparts. Generally cheaper than Opie oils. Order online as it's normally cheaper than in store, although you can do click and collect if there's a branch local to you rather than waiting for a delivery. Plus my last delivery leaked, so maybe picking up is better.

Stuff
I've applied for loads of trade cards (I have a habit of losing wallets and the cards aren't linked to anything, so ever time I loose one I have to reapply!).

Unless you've got a mate with loads of Motor vehicle NVQs (again, I stress that the trade isn't 'linked' to anything, they just take a photocopy and make you fill out a short form so it wouldn't be an issue to 'borrow' someone's certificates) just try and blag it with a pay slip. I've gotten the vast majority of my cards using slips from places that don't sound like garages.
