Hi guys,

Was looking to buy a small runaround and went to look at a Ka but stumbled across the EcoSport? Seems to good to be true? Small SUV with the EcoBoost engine?

I just dont know much about it - can anyone give me a heads up? I have looked online and most information seems to be of Indian customers or things like WhatCar? reviews.

Whats the PH verdict?

My brother came home in one the other week, hateful crock of censored.

horribly plastic interior, stupid boot design, a full size alloy hanging off the back which just ruins the handling. Just oozes cheap and nasty even in the titanium trim.

Edit - just get a Fiesta.

I was stuck in traffic outside a ford dealer the other day - they had lots of these in the forecourt - I couldn't get over how small the wheels are - just looks rubbish

They don't seem to have good reviews. If you like that sort of car then a Kuga would be a better bet.

Autocar gave it a shockingly bad score in its road test.

The old version wasn't that bad in some places:

It appeared to be a mixture of Fiesta, Fusion and a non-duratec petrol engine that looked like a Ford mini-Explorer/Expedition crossed with a Freelander.

I thought it was actually ok for what it was.

It's a shame, it had the potential to be a great car. Unfortunately they just gave us a car from the undeveloped world instead of designing one properly.

The one I drove was built in Brazil and seemed quite good

I believe that one of the optional extras is an "I couldn't afford a Range Rover in my wildest dreams" sunstrip.

As above they weren't designed for the Europen market so not really up to scratch. Build quality is cheap and low rent, mediocre handling along with poor NVH. Having said all that, compared to a KA it's probably ok.

So it's a Ford Dacia then?
eco sport-must admit I've never heard of them, are prices similar to PHers favourite Romanian SUV?

As a car that can be driven on unsurfaced roads, the old version was fairly good. The suspension was spot on for that.

It is probably not ideal for a country with almost 100% paved roads. It's not a tall road car that is engineered to drive like a refined sports saloon whilst having pretend off-road looks of the sort expected in Europe.

Regardless of how good or bad it is I wouldn't buy one until Ford learn to either pronounce or spell it correctly! The advert calls it the Ford Echo Sport, it should be E-co Sport! Or it should in my part of the world wink

It's traditionally a Ford of South America product but it's built in Thailand and India now. Ours are built in India.
