Protected NCB doesn't mean your insurance premium won't go up. It more than likely will if you claim.

I'd post some pictures and get some quotes from bodyshops before deciding my next step.

OK two schools of thought on this as I went through a similar debate when someone damaged my car whilst it was parked and I could not trace them.

Get a quote. If it is higher than your excess decide whether you can afford that amount and if so self repair. If not go the insurance route as you have protected NCD and after all that's what we pay insurance for and the route I took.

The only thing I will say is having a protected NCD doesn't appear to offer you protection against increased premiums when assessing risk. I'll bet once you declare this 'claim' your next years premium will be affected by some amount especially if you move insurance company.

Protected NCD/B is exactly as it is described, you still get your 40, 50, 60 or however many percent off your premium, but your premium will still increase because it's not related to NCD, it's related to risk.

Remember to inform the police that you have had an accident.

Agree with above keep the reg off. Even if you log the claim you have to declare that you've had an accident. Get a quote and see if you can afford it and if not then call them.
