Hi,

I was wondering if it was normal for a cars ecu to record driving data even without an accident, as a friend of mine tried to sell a 911 but it fell through as the 9 hours driving previous had been intermittently 'on the limit' thus it was red flagged at the dealer.

Do all cars record this data or just performance/porsche's as i have never heard of its implication in prosecution for accidents etc

regards,

MitchT

I don't know the full extent of what you're talking about but I do know that BMW log the number of times you've used the launch control. On the E46 M3 your drivetrain warranty would be invalidated if you'd used the LC more than 15 times. In the US they weren't allowed to do this so the revs at which the car would launch were set significantly lower.

they quoted over revving, handbrake used while driving at 10mph+ and a missed gear

That will be rev limiter ranges and hours corroborating mileage rather than anything else.

I drive 'briskly' and OPC checked my 997.2S for this when they took it in p/x for my Panamera. It was fine.

Edited to add, just read your latest post above, not really much point starting the thread, that's pretty much what I expected though.

Well your friend just sounds like an awful driver.

More than you could ever want to know about Porsche "over-rev" tracking:
