Straight to the point: Is it possible to change a name on a logbook without adding another keeper?

nothing underhand happening here, I just want to give a vehicle to my dad. Both live at the same address, vehicle kept in same place etc but it'll be his and then insured in his name. Just want to avoid another owner on the logbook if at all possible

But it IS another, different owner. Address and whatnot is irrelevant

Just give him a receipt. V5 isn't proof of ownership anyway.

Declaration on most proposal forms is that vehicle is owned and registered to proposer( big no no for one person to own the car and another insure it).Had this scenario couple of yeasr back when daughter had a car in her name, she didn't need to use and let me use it if I insured it. I ended up registering vehicle in my name.
I'd suspect if vehicle on HP,then finance co would be accepted as legal owner, but I've never had any insurance broker make a deal of fact a car is on finance.

I bought a car for my mum and the V5 was in my name instead of me specifically requesting several times for it to be in hers.

Sent the V5 off to DVLA with a letter explaining and got the V5 back in her name, and I wasn't recorded as ever having ownership of the car.

In your instance, is sounds like a second owner so should be recorded that way.
