Why has nobody taken their redundant tax discs off their windscreens? Our two cars are literally the only two cars I have seen without a tax disc. I took them off on the day. Nobody at work understands why this vexes me and why anyone would even bother taking it off but then they are not 'car people'. They're the sort that leave parking tickets at the base of their windscreens for months and take their cars to automatic car washes. One of them even drives a Yaris Hybrid and thought a red Cayman as a Ferrari. Another owns a Vauxhall. So they don't count.

It's the car people leaving them on that I don't get. Are you deliberately leaving them on for some sort of protest or nostalgic reason? Personally, I couldn't wait to get the thing off, is there anyone out there who feels the same? Or am I alone in the world?

All four cars in our family had them removed the night before ready for the morning. My Dad rang me to say he'd had a ceremonial binning of the tax disc holder on his motorbike, he hated the way it looked.

I just can't seem to part with it. But then I do still have out of date Czech, Austrian and Slovakian vignettes in the windscreen as well. And my NT sticker from 2012. Probably easier just to replace the windscreen to get rid of them.

They're not bothered or they're too thick to know that it's no longer required.

I took my two off our cars the day it was no longer required.

I'm definitely on the autistic spectrum. I even removed my mum's one when I was in her car recently. She didn't have any glass cleaner so I used her nail polish remover, as having a smudgy circle on the screen is worse than a tax disc. Isn't it?

Took it off straight away, my car came with all the original tax discs from day one so saved it with them

As long as it winds up people like you, people like me will leave it there.... there are important things in life, then there is removing the tax disc from the windscreen which is right down there with knowing the difference between a Porsche and a Ferrari...

Mine were removed well before the change date. Nobody cared.

I'm more amazed that you give a st.

Are you suggesting individuals intentionally leave them to wind up 'people like' the OP?

I haven't removed mine because I can't be arsed to deal with the glue residue that would be left on the inside of the windscreen.

Hell, If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

I'm going to be like my screen name and be a bit old school on this: I'm leaving it on the screen to remind me to check that my HR dept has renewed it (they were late one year) since I won't receive the reminder myself. My next car is due in spring, so I might even put something on the screen as a reminder for the next year as I can't rely on any sort of software calendar reminder due to our inept IT dept.

I don't understand what the rush is to remove it as it's not as if they have scrapped paying for it...IMHO that would be more excuse to have a 'ceremonial burning'.

I'm planning on getting a replica 1979 disc to display on the screen of my RS2000 when I (finally) get it back on the road.

Surely you meant to say " the day they were no longer required".

Anyway, I'm "too thick" it would seem as I'm in the " can't be arsed" camp too.

Or not bothered.

Or I'm leaving it in as an extra reminder.

I left mine on so I know when it's due for renewal. Because I can guarantee I'll forget, and I won't get a reminder from DVLA because they will probably have changed their system now that tax discs don't need to be displayed. So I'll end up not renewing, and they will hit me with a big fine.

Much easier to leave it on for now!

That's an acceptable idea, keeping it period, I would have done the same to my Lotus Elan had it not caught fire. The RB5 owners club have just made a Richard Burns memorial one, also totally acceptable.

Perhaps the disc is still within it's date and they will remove it when it's out of date and the renewal has been done for the no-disc? Which is what I did so as to be certain its all legal (mistrust of the idiots at the dvla).
