I have a vehicle that is currently on a private plate but due to the fact that the DVLA simply won't answer the phone as they are always busy according to the phone auto message which is leaving me in the position of not being able to drive a brand new vehicle legally.
I placed a private plate on a vehicle I purchased but they then contacted me telling me we needed to alter something because my wife purchased the plate and the name on the form we filled was the company name which is actually the same minus the "Mrs" at the beginning.
We have filled in the forms and sent to them but this was returned 6 weeks later saying that the owner needs to contact them and this is where we are right now.

A 2014 car that has a couple of miles on it and currently underivable.

Anyone know a magic way to make them answer ?

Odd, I was on the phone to them quite a few times over the past few weeks and they always answered me. Was in some long queues for some of them, but always got through in the end.

You tried from a different number? They might have caller ID winkbiggrin

I've tried the three different numbers but to get to the right section you have to enter the correct key which always come back to the same answer "we are extremely busy, worst times during 12-2pm" but this is a daily message no matter what time I call.

Am I right in thinking the DVLA do have "local" offices?

If so, can you visit them and get advice?

Not sure I understand... if the DVLA haven't accepted the plate swap (i.e. you haven't got the new V5) then can't you just drive it on the original plate for which I assume you have the V5 or new keeper part if second hand - although you may have sent them off with the request to swap the plate... none of which stops you driving it on the existing plate.

Sorry, I didn't explain fully. The vehicle I own doesn't seem to have a reg associated with it anymore, that was the problem, they removed the reg but failed to process the new one.
Anyway, I've just managed to get through and they have told me what to do to fix it so I'm going to fill the form out again and send in the morning.

Anything to do with the dvla at the moment is a pile of wk. It took 7 weeks from buying a car recently for me to have it taxed and registered correctly. All because of this wonderful new system of taxing cars; it might be fantastic for a simple sale, but anything other than that is a nightmare.
