Selling my car advice
Discussion
i am selling my Disco 4 after Xmas and have an offer from an LR dealer (I don't want the hassle of selling it privately) and have also made a couple of enquiries with some well known car buying services, who so far are offering rather more than the dealer. Can anyone tell me what to look out for if I take things a stage further and engage. Any advice appreciated.
I appreciate you say you can do without the hassle - thats fair enough, but you could easily stick a grand on top of the car-buying web sites for a private sale...
I recently sold our Mercedes ML privately and after weeding out the jokers, got a very reasonable price. The only thing I changed was stating that I was happy to negotiate on the price but only after the car had been viewed in person which seemed to do the trick.
Regarding the car buying web sites as you asked, I'd expect they'd go over the car with a fine tooth comb to knock the price down. On that note, recently I was surprised at how strong auction prices are... I reckon half of these firms just offload their cars this way, taking advantage of bulk discounts and reduced commission....(????)

I have sold 10 cars in the last four years, all sold within a week, all bar one sold to first to view (second viewer on that one), dropped no more than £100 on asking price
I write good adverts, clear and concise, post decent photos and price according to the market rather than what I'd like- sold three of my cars in the last month, longest sale was 72 hours from advertising, quickest was 12 hours (Boxster S)

How do you sell a car at auction, as a private seller? I want rid of my car ASAP. Am in Woking, Surrey.
Manheim or BCA as examples will have sales where private sellers can enter vehicles. They dont tend to get as much as if entered through a business as usually theres a reason an individual vehicle will be auctioned off.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
