Even on this side of the pond these are showing up. looks like next generation of cars will be regulated to include this stuff. Depressing.

You can thank all the pricks who have already put these in their cars - voluntarily.

So I am a prick for putting up for one for my first year of driving in order for my insurance to be £450 closer to being slightly affordable? Not everyone is a powerfully built company director where money is no object. I do not support any sort of compulsory installation of them though, that would be ridiculous.

It doesn't need to become "compulsory".

I give it five years between the point where no mainstream company will accept a new driver without one (for all I know, that's passed already) and the point when nobody bothers asking for unmonitored insurance as an adult even after they cease being a new driver. Old crumblies who remember when you didn't require one will remain, until they die.

So long as there is a demand for insurance without one of these you will be able to get it.

Many of us pay far less than the cost of fitting one of these boxes for our car insurance, let alone the cost of employing some one to look at the data etc . What would be the point in fitting one to a car likle mine when I pay about £180 for insurance? If you are paying £2k for car insurance then it makes more sense.

My driving doesn't suit being monitored biggrin

I think in one journey of seven miles this morning my insurance would have been invalidated, however, nobody was put at undue risk from this, we talk about ESP dumbing down, this is the next level, much worse, that said, my fuel and tyres would last a lot longer.

I still hold a grudge against anyone who watched the Tyson v Bruno fight as they are responsible for pay per view TV.

In my third year of having a black box, this will be my last. Can't wait to get rid of it. I'll be almost 22 and will have 3 years NCB when it come to the next renewal date.

Devil 2575,

I guess the point he was making is that by having a black box, you reduce the premium down to an affordable level, because you think you have a right to drive. What he thinks you should do is refuse to have a black box, not be able to afford insurance so go without a car. Because having a car is a privilege, and fortunately one he can afford.

It's the rantings of a nutcase in my view, but I think that was his point.
