Which FR cars have used a transaxle in the last 10-15 years? I know of the Maserati 4200/Coupe/Spyder, but what others?

Aston use one, which is why it took so long for them to adopt the ZF 8 speed because nobody else had requested a transaxle version.

I think the SLS and AMG GT both do.

Lexus LFA maybe?

One could argue that a front engined RWD layout is mostly the preserve of the prestige and performance these days, regardless of the gearbox position.

But my query is specifically regarding the use of transaxles in recent years. My MX5 isn't really prestige nor performance when compared to the models mentioned above.

Hence the qualifier, "mostly".

ETA: Although, it could be argued that it is requisite for handling performance.

It depends what you define a transaxle as, if you define it as a combined gearbox and final drive, then FWD drive Audis above the A4 in size have a transaxle gearbox.

So do the vast majority (all?) front-engined, FWD cars.

The OP did say "FR cars", presumably meaning front-engined RWD.

Fair point, based on how I worded it, I should have also included a comment about turning the drive through 90 degrees as well. I wouldn't class a transverse fwd gearbox as a transaxle, but Audis longitudinal fwd gearbox is, IMO.

I mean transaxle as a car that's front engined, rear drive where the gearbox and (rear) diff are situated where the (rear) diff normally sits on its own, between the rear wheels.

I do agree with your first definition and as the word etymology, it is a combined transmission and axle.

I think the setups in transverse engined FWD cars (and obviously transverse-mid-engined RWD cars) are usually referred to as transaxles too.
