Cars for most of us on here are obviously far more than a mere mode of transport, but there's no getting away from the fact our time to really enjoy them is running out. I've been spending a fair bit of time over the last year trying to figure out what will replace them when we have no choice other than to view them as a mode of A to B.

So far I've come up with sailing, which I’ve not tried, and flying, which is going well so far.

What other hobby for you could replace the pleasure, adventure, and excitement that can be had with or in a road car?

Train spotting of course. Public transport is the way forward, no?

Motorcycles.

Or bicycles, but I'm lazy.

I've had some excellent fun in a soap box, even had a dab of oppo. Pulling it back to the top of the hill wasn't fun, but going down was more thrilling than 99% of driving motorcars has been.

What? Yesterday I drove in to the local town in heavy traffic, got a hair cut and drove home again in heavy traffic. It was still fun, because I was in an Elise.

If we still have cars they can still be fun. Only when cars have gone do we stop enjoying them.

I don't agree that time to enjoy combustion engine cars is running out, I see them in the future as a hobby similar to horse riding now, with joe public using electric/hydrogen white goods vehicles as personal transport.

Poppycock.

The only thing that would replace cars for me is motorcycles.

There is only one reason I have not done my bike test, and that is that I know I would love it, and then I would need to own a fun old motorbike.

And I'd keep my old fun car anyway!

I've got lots of other hobbies that I enjoy, but so far nothing has replaced cars for me. So long as there are race tracks though, we needn't worry.

If I had a realistic chance of *comfortably* owning/operating a last-generation piston engined fighter such as a Hawker Sea Fury or Grumman F8F Bearcat I'd dump cars in a heartbeat.

Same here, anything with wheels or a motor and I like it. Although my concern with superbikes on the road is as much as I feel I could restrain myself I am far more concerned about those in cars who I would be sharing the road with.

I know people who have progressed from messing around with cars & bikes to rebuilding tractors, vintage farm equipment and boats as a means of diversifying their hobbies.

I dare say the day that petrol is made illegal and if my "keeper car" cannot be converted to run on an alternative I will bring it into the house and probably end up stripping/rebuilding it a few times like you would a Lego model.

Tank Paintball.

Get loads of mates together, buy some tanks, replace gun with some form of Compressed air cannon, shoot at each other with big ass paintballs.....that would do it.
