RE: Vettel at Fiorano: Time For Tea?
Friday 5th December 2014

Sebastian Vettel's move from Red Bull to Ferrari been the most talked about F1 transfer of 2014. Will Kimi accept the four-time champion's arrival? Will Vettel now be quicker than Ricciardo with a different car? Can Ferrari reclaim credibility after a fairly torrid season? There will plenty to discuss as testing continues and the 2015 season begins.
Vettel at Fiorano: Time For Tea?
Seb's first run in a Ferrari F1 car and it's an old V8 as well!

For now we have Vettel's first laps of Fiorano from Ferrari's YouTube channel. And despite a few cutaways to show how well Seb is fitting in at Maranello, much of the vid is the man doing what he does best. Which is drive very fast. Moreover, it's using a V8 Ferrari F1 car (the F2012) and it sounds mega. There's even a burnout or two.
Now we just have to wait and see what Ferrari can produce for 2015 and if Kimi and Sebastian can work as teammates. Could be another great season!

The last year there was an F1 car with a V10 in the back was 2006. That's a 2012 car, with a 2012 spec V8 in the back. V10s sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTS0qM7BJ6s

You forget just how angry and extreme the V10's sounded at the peak of their powers. Looks ridiculously quick compared to the current cars (though it probably isn't).Edit: Welcome to pedant's corner.....
As for the V8, it was never the best sounding thing (V12 and V10 are miles better) but after a year of horrible V6 turbo sounds, it's amazing to hear it again.
Hate the current engines so much.

just watch for the old knife heading between the shoulder blades Seb.. . . . . . . .
Or Judging by how he behaved at RB, the other way round. Disobeyed numerous team orders and had 1 bad season and jumps ship from a team that supplied him a title winning car 4 years on the trot...... Great in car footage with the radio too, looked like he was enjoying himself with the older engine format; let's hope he can work with the team (and Tifosi) to get the Ferrari power train and chassis working together.
Would love to do it myself, but I've had a go at karting a couple of times and been lapped by Nissany's grannie (probably) so I'd never get an F1 car into its performance envelope. Hooking up a lap must be a pretty special feeling.

I would love to see his notes comparing the f2012 to the rb8... It looks washy at the front through some of the faster corners and he was asking for more grip, though he wasn't sure if it was the tyres/track falling away; also seemed to be asking too much of the rears on occasion. Could be many reasons for all that of course, not least that he's just jumped in the thing, but it's all the info i guess we're going to get.
Be interesting to see how Seb performs, I don't think he's done much damage his naysayers arguments this season. Hoping for some intense rivalry between him and the iceman too.

Silly me. I thought the comments thread on this story would be to comment on Sebastian Vettel driving a Ferrari.
Not yet another exercise in whingeing about the 2014 engines.
The new V6 turbos are here. They will be here for a while. Deal with it. The very last thing F1 needs right now is another radical direction change.
And if I'm going to be shot down, I may as well go down in a blaze of glory: I like the new engines. I think they are an incredible achievement that F1 should be celebrating as part of being the pinnacle of motorsport - that level of power from that small a capacity, coupled with the fuel consumption, as opposed to perpetuating an engine configuration that is becoming increasingly rare and dare one say it irrelevant to most motorists. Plus the torque they kick out challenges the drivers' skills (witness the number of lairy, tail out moments all the drivers have had this year), and the fact that you can now hear the tyres squeal, the noise of the crowd - a multitude of elements constituting the atmosphere at a race, as opposed to one single thing drowning out all others.
I'll now retreat to my bunker in the hope of surviving the inevitable incoming barrage.

I liked watching this, seb looked comfortable in the car on less than ideal conditions. He suits the V8 and blown diffuser it just seems to suit his style.
I do like the V6 turbo sound. Its modern, the newest technology it is real tech that can filter down to road cars and this is what F1 should be. The V12,V10,V8 era was great but V6 turbo hybrid is relevant, with modern noises and in my opinion better for it.

Hard to believe that was Seb's first time in the car, such committment, be was really leaning on it and really maximising the track under braking, coming within millimeters of cold wet grass. Mighty impressive. Loved to hear the radio messages too. Seb's performance at Ferrari will probably be very much in the spotlight next year.
On the engines I agree with Europa1. So bored with boring people boring on about it. Go and listen to a Tennis Racquet, or some kind of pneumatic ball. They sound just as raw and visceral as they did decades past. Maybe you'd like these sports more for that reason.

Honestly can't quite get my head around Vettel in a Ferrari, started watching the video, immediately forgot it was about Vettel and started thinking it was Alonso, couldn't quite figure out what was going on on the radio, neither voices sounded like Alonso, and it wasn't Alonso's helmet sounded a bit more like Kimi, but it wasn't Kimi either, listen the whole way through very confused about the whole thing, wasn't until i saw Vettel getting out of the car at the end that the penny dropped that it was Vettel's voice,
