Morning folks!

I was looking forward to my new car only to discover the tyres are terrible. They're average in the dry and terrible in the wet. Not very confidence inspiring at all.

The current tyres are Pirelli P Zero run flats.

I'm unsure whether to replace with other run flats. I've heard mixed reviews. They are my first run flats and if they are all like for like, I'd rather risk a puncture and walk the 20 miles home... They're that bad.

You guys are going to be a lot more clues up than me. So open to suggestions, keep the run flats? Ditch them?

I don't have a budget, just whatever it needs. Grip and performance is my main requirement. Not fussed about longevity.

Runflats are horrid thing. I had then on my cooper S. Transformed the car when I changed them for normal tyres.

I've just replaced my Bridgestone run flats with Michelin Pilot Supersports. They are OEM fit now on x35i models so you can get them as exact replacements with BMW star rating, highly recommend

Totally separate to your question I'm interested how you're getting on with the 328, a rare car & one I've only seen a couple of times, inevitably 99% are 320d's.

What sort of MPG are you getting?

Cheers

This; but if your car is on finance try to keep the old tyres to put back on it whenever your term ends. A colleague replaced RFs in his 2012 5 series and BMW stung him for returning it with non-fun flat tyres.

This.

How many miles have you done? Tyres can improve after a few hundred miles.

I've just got into a 428i Gran Coupe, which obviously has run flats, personally i've been pleasantly surprised. The ride is much better than my C250 CDI coupe.

To the chap asking about the 328i. I love it. MPG is as you can imagine no where near the quoted figures. If I drive very sensibly and leisurely in a mix of 30-60mph zones. I'll return mid 30s. If you sit at 60mph on the motorway it's around the same. Put the foot down and cruise at 80mph, it's around 30.

I recently got 350 miles from full to empty. Mixed driving, mainly single carriageways, dual carriageways and some town.

If you tank it, expect mid 20s.

It's effortlessly quick, but far from scary quick. I think it's a nice balance between mpg, initial cost of the car and power. I test drove the 320i and was majorly disappointed. The 328i is a massive step up in performance, especially low down the Rev range.

The car is a 328i M sport with the M sport plus package and the sports auto transmission. 19" wheels for reference. Fuel will no doubt varie between models

Of course I'd be lying if I said I didn't want the 335i. It was just too expensive for me.

Thanks for the tip on keeping the original tyres, I had planned on selling them! Won't be doing that now... So thanks again.

This is a good forum!

Can't wait to get the super sports on it now, hopefully make a big differenc, which I'm sure it will.

P.s. The 320d comment made me laugh! Very true.

When you have the tyres swapped make sure you get the run flats back, put them on eBay and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Depending on how worn they are you may even pay back the cost of the new ones!

Just as an example, I had an old potenza run flat in the garage, 3 years old and from my 335i when I swapped to falkens, 4mm left and worn out the shoulder more...I got it sold for £110! People from bethnal green in a nackered 320d minicab/drug runner with fake alpina's had it...was 19" though

They have less than 3000 miles on them.

I actually got a puncture 2 days ago. (Screw right through centre of rear right). I was very impressed with them in that regard, pressure never dropped below 26psi.

I got it plugged the next day. I rang BMW for advice and he advised me they don't plug as it destroys the structure snd integrity of the tyre and wanted to charge me £450 for a bridgestone! i nearly choked... My tyres are crap enough without the rears not even matching!

I'll risk the punctures though for the pilot super sports... Well worth it.

Many thanks for the reply. Having recently returned to petrol myself for the daily the 328 is one of the other cars which represents a potential compromise, if petrols what you want.

Not surprised about MPG, mine is giving 70% of the claimed, exactly what honest johns reported.

No worries. I've no idea why these ridiculous projected claims aren't outlawed. It must sting a lot of unsuspecting everyday drivers. The tests should be based on real life driving, not some lab tests.
