You just don't care about them and that adds to the carefree motoring. It's such a nice thing about not caring about your car as long as it gets you from A to B and if you have to beat that demented lady at Sainsbury's to get into THAT space. If it all comes to the battle of shoving you know you will win as her SUV is on 2 years finance deal whilst your car is on a 1 month duct tape, Halfords paint that does not quite match and t-cut deal.

I've had my shiitbox diesel turbo thing superchipped just to get it into that space even quicker. I get the added benefit of a huge cloud of particles emissions every time I accelerate, especially when cars are following with their headlights on. I just hope Boris is watching it from his mountain top lair somewhere near Westminster as I head into the signposted clean zone each day on the A2.

You probably need to get something more interesting to focus on in your life.

Totally agree, one of our cars is a 12 year old Picasso with a dent in every panel.

The sense of freedom driving that to the super market after being stuck in a rental all week worrying about the potential cost of a stone chip to the window was huge.

I kind of want this care-free motoring for a daily driver, be nice to not worry about idiots in car parks bouncing their doors off mine or vandalism etc.

Not my idea of what owning a "sh!tbox" is about. Hopefully, you will try it on thinking you are terrorising a woman, but some big bloke will rearrange your features for you. Utterly moronic despicable behaviour. I bet you have no insurance either. Moron.

Well, I guess there will always be tw@ts in the world. Regrettably these people who don't care about their own car tend to nudge bumpers when parking and swing their doors wide in a crowded car park.

The bit missing is that often the owner of the SUV on finance cares no more about their car than the stbox owner

I agree strongly with the sentiment but not the details - harrasing people in supermarket carparks?!?

A guy waited for me to get back to my car recently because he had clipped it when pulling into his parking space. He made a mistake, owned up to it and it was lovely to say not to worry about it.

I get it, and it is a good feeling to be unconcerned about little dents and scrapes. Unlike the nightmare of driving a new car and worrying all the time about the most trivial of marks. Cars are mechanically tough, paint and thin panels aren't.

We've just rearranged our fleet. For a long time my P&J cars were also doing practical family car duties, whilst Mrs Mave had small shed hatchbacks. Mrs Mave now has the practical family shed car, and I have a P&J less practical car. Really nice stooging around in a boggo Mondeo not worrying about it getting scratched, or muddy, or having monkeys pulling off bits of rubber at Longleat!

Certainly, I don't care about parking it anywhere (legal and safe). Not sure about racing someone in a car park, though.

Also, T-cut on a stbox? Waste of T-cut, surely? biggrin

I'm replacing my current stter but trying to find something that looks interesting or vaguely nice at a distance (ie not a standard hatchback) but might have battlescars when viewed close up. Quite a few CLKs coming in at around the £1k mark. Not sure of reliability, though?

I've got a £600 fiat van which is nicknamed the popemobile as it is white, lots of windows and a disabled ramp.

We park the smart family volvo on the drive protecting my Land Rover project and the van gets parked on the road. We live at the end of a cul de sac with a children's park. This means we get plenty of stressed out mums and dads in there nearly new cars abandoned haphazardly during school holidays and after school.

Going back to my van the other day I noticed a huge red scratch down the passenger wing and door, no damaged to my paint and if I had 5 minutes I could rub it off but i leaving it like a badge of honour as I am mildly pleased that they have done more damage to their car than they have to my van!
